School Registration

How do I register my child?

School District #81 (Fort Nelson) is pleased to welcome all new students to our schools.  

Kindergarten students begin school in the September of the same year they turn five. Any child who turns 5 years old in 2025 (born in 2020) is eligible to register for the 2025/26 school year.

All students, Kindergarten through grade 12, who live in the Toad River area will attend Toad River School (250-232-5491).

Prepare Required Documents for Registration

Please have the following documents ready to upload or produce with your child’s registration (all documents must be received for registration to be completed).

Proof of Legal Name, Birthdate, and Status in Canada

Birth Certificate, Passport, INAC card, citizenship card, immigration documents, permanent resident card.

Proof of BC Residency

Must have parent/guardian name and legal street address in Fort Nelson. Could be property tax, rental agreement, utility bill, driver’s license, vehicle registration, Canadian bank or credit card statement.

BC Care Card or BC Service Card

Or proof of registration of BC Care Card.

To register in-person, contact your catchment school to schedule an appointment and if possible, you are requested to print off and complete the district registration form. Please note, the form must be printed on legal paper 8.5 X 14.

Frequently Asked Questions about Toad River School

A consistent, province-wide curriculum is determined by the Ministry of Education and Childcare through curriculum policy which defines what teachers are required to teach and what students are expected to learn in each grade.

Teaching strategies and assessment strategies are determined by the professional judgement of teachers, enabling them to address individual student needs. This also allows for the curriculum to be delivered in a locally meaningful context.

Teachers will report to parents and guardians a minimum of five times per school year as required by the School Act.

  • Three Written Reports

Plus any other communication that is recorded by the teacher such as a telephone call emails or informal conversations.

Whenever you have a suggestion or a concern about your child’s school or education program, do not hesitate to speak with your child’s teacher or the school principal. Teachers and principals are responsible for issues relating to their own school, and welcome parental involvement.

Important Bus Information

There is no bussing for Toad River students.

A transportation allowance may be available if you meet the qualifications set by the SD81 Board of Education.
